Clean The Rubber Gasket
If you havent cleaned the lid in a while, you might find it gunky, which is gross. This is where most of the mold will grow.
You can start cleaning the gasket by rubbing it from the inside using a wet cloth. After that, soak it in water and scrub it with scrubbing foam. Continue doing it until you get rid of all the sliminess.
Continue cleaning the outside, making sure you scrub each gap. This can be quite tricky since the crevices are too small for the scrub to reach. In this case, you can use a brush-type scrubber.
Yeti In A Dishwasher: The Specific Care Instructions
It should be noted that, while it is okay to put your tumbler in a dishwasher, there are certain things you should take note of. For starters, you shouldnt throw your lid into the dishwasher too.
Are Yeti cups dishwasher safe? Yes.
Can you throw in the lid too? No!
The rubber gasket under the lid of a Yeti tumbler or cup is crucial to keeping the cup- airtight. If it gets damaged, then your drinkwares ability to insulate its contents will be compromised.
The heat in a dishwasher is actually strong enough to damage that rubber gasket, and so the one should never be put in the other.
There is also another factor to consider here. Washing the actual mug of Yeti drinkware is pretty easy. A bit of soap and a cleaning wand will do the trick. However, washing the lid needs a lot more care.
The gasket tends to hide a lot more grime, leading to the risk of mold growth if not cleaned properly. To clean the lid, therefore, you need to physically remove the rubber gasket and then clean it and the lid separately.
Make sure to get into all nooks to get rid of all the grime. This has to be done carefully by hand or else you risk hosting mold colonies on your tumblers lid.
If you need step-by-step instructions for the above, read our expert advice on how to clean a YETI Rambler.
Apart from that, the main mug itself is perfectly dishwasher safe.
Difference Between Rambler Elements & Original Stainless Steel Duracoat
The Duracoat lasts a long time, and it can be cleaned in a dishwasher. It has the same stainless steel layer at its base, and we have put a new coating of stainless steel through PVD . PVD has made it possible to look like brushed graphite and copper from top to bottom. It is coated with UV-Resistance and also has used the oleo-phobic coating, which makes it fingerprint-proof.

Are Rtic Tumblers Dishwasher Safe
RTIC are arguably one of Yeti’s biggest competitors and they make tumblers that are almost identical and work just as well.
RTIC say on their website that their tumblers are NOT dishwasher safe and you should hand wash only.
However, many users have commented that they consistently wash their RTIC tumblers in the dishwasher with no issues.
I wash all my Yeti, RTIC, Mossy Oak etc. in the dishwasher. If it can hold boiling water for tea, I can’t see how a dishwasher will hurt them. I have not had any of my many pieces lose vacuum nor have any cosmetic damage doing this.
CtTOPGUN from EggHeadForum
Given RTIC Tumblers are much more affordable than Yeti tumblers it is up to you which tumbler you get and whether or not you risk putting your RTIC in the dishwasher

Care Instructions State They Are Dishwasher Safe

This funny image from a Yeti customer that was posted to Reddit in 2017 is likely caused by Yeti transitioning their instruction manuals and packaging. The instruction manual inside the cup said NOT safe for dishwashers while the care instructions on the external sleeve say it is dishwasher safe.
While I cannot confirm that all the new packaging states they are dishwasher safe I would presume that now all care instructions say the same thing and confirm that YES Yeti Rambler Tumblers are in fact dishwasher safe.
This also goes for all sizing of the Tumblers. 10oz, 20oz and 30oz tumblers should all be considered dishwasher safe. You can throw them in there for a quick and easy clean and not have to worry about it.

Why Were Yeti Rambler Mugs Originally Thought Not To Be Dishwasher Safe
Yeti Rambler mugs work so well at keeping beverages hot or cold because they use a vacuum seal. Between the inside metal layer of the cup and the outside metal layer is a near-perfect vacuum. This stops heat from escaping.
It was originally thought that putting your Yeti Ramblers in the dishwasher could destroy the vacuum seal, thus rendering the cup useless at retaining or keeping out heat.
But given that these cups can handle boiling water for things like Tea and Coffee it doesn’t make sense that the heat from the dishwasher would destroy the seal.
I guess ultimately Yeti did their own testing and determined that their cups could handle the dishwasher and still keep their vacuum seal.

The Travel Coffee Mug Buying Guide
- Travel coffee mugs are great for coffee and other beverages, too. You can use them for hot tea or cocoa, as well, and many are built to also keep cold beverages chilled for hours. That means you can pour in ice water, soda and other beverages and seal them up for hours of hydration.
- If you plan to drink hot tea, look for a mug that makes it easy to include your tea bags or infusers.
- Travel coffee mugs have different capacities. If you prefer a small, strong cup of coffee, look for a smaller mug. Those who pack extra creamer and sweeteners in each cup may want to look for a mug with a larger capacity.
- If you keep your mug in your cars cupholder, pay close attention to one that will fit snugly inside without jiggling around as you turn sharp corners.
- Cleanup can be particularly complicated with some travel mugs. Some can be tossed onto the top shelf of your dishwasher, which adds convenience. Look at the lids of your coffee mug as well. Some need to be taken apart occasionally so that you can clean beneath seals or fasteners.
