Whirlpool Dishwasher Buttons Not Working

A Wash Delay Option Is Active

Whirlpool Dishwasher Buttons Not Working? Repair #W10380381

Sometimes the reason your Whirlpool dishwasher buttons fail to work is the units settings. In particular, you may have activated the wash delay option, which causes even the Whirlpool dishwasher start button not to work.

There are two ways to fix this:

First, you can wait until the unit reaches the delay time, after which it should resume normal operation. Second, you can turn off the delay wash feature by pressing Cancel/Drain to cancel the delay and Start/Resume to start a wash cycle.

Where Are Dishwashers Plugged In

The dishwasher and power source are mounted under the sink and inside the cabinets. If not under the sink, it does not mean that the dishwasher wire should be laid separately. The National Electrical Code states that all power sources must be at the front to be easily accessed.

There is a way to reset the Kenmore dishwasher correctly.

  • First, press the Heated Dry button and then press the Normal Dry button.
  • Once again, press the Heated Dry button and then press the Normal Dry button again.
  • When you press all four buttons, Dishwasher will start a cycle, and the cycle lasts for 12 minutes.
  • Your dishwasher will be reset after the cycle is over.
  • Clean The Buttons Thoroughly

If you find that your dishwasher is still not working properly, you need to clean the buttons thoroughly. There are plenty of cleaning options available, but you may want to use an ammonia face cleaner. This is a great way to break down food, dust, debris, and oil that could be inhibiting the dishwasher.

When you use ammonia, you should make sure to wear gloves and goggles. That way, you can protect yourself against health risks. Furthermore, you should also avoid mixing ammonia with bleach. This can lead to a toxic solution that can be dangerous to your health.

    Whirlpool Dishwasher Flashing Red Lights

More often than not, a Whirlpool dishwasher wont run a cycle when the red lights are flashing. Usually, the problem is either a bad control board or a door thats not latched correctly. To fix the problem, try latching the door first. If it doesnt, the latch needs replacement.

If addressing the door doesnt stop the red lights from blinking, the control board is faulty. Unfortunately, theres little you can do to repair it, so you may be better off buying a new one.

Whirlpool Dishwasher Lights Flashing And Will Not Start

This issue may be caused by the overtightening of the screws during the installation or a bad control board.

Overtightening the screws during installation can sometimes pull up your units top, causing misalignment between the door and its sensor when closed. You can find out if this is the culprit by closing the door and lifting it a little before pressing the Start button. If the unit starts, then youve found the cause of your problem.

To correct it, pull down on your units top assembly at the point where the sensor is located. Alternatively, shim down the middle to push the top frame back down. It might help to use shims or paint sticks to wedge down the top frame.

If the issue isnt a misalignment between the door and its sensor, the control board is likely malfunctioning and needs replacement.

  • Press START/RESUME to start the cycle.

When your dishwasher doesnt dry sufficiently or doesnt start on command, make sure you have the right setting selected. While some drying settings have to be manually selected, certain wash settings may prohibit an immediate start.

The following settings can delay or prevent your dishwasher from starting immediately:

    • Delay Start: Delays the start of your dishwasher to a preselected later time. Press CANCEL/DRAIN to cancel the Delay Start function and START/RESUME to start your preferred cycle.
    • Sleep Mode: Saves energy by turning off power to the dishwasher. Disable sleep mode by opening or closing the dishwasher door or pressing the START or CANCEL button.
    • Control Lock: Prevents unintended use of the dishwasher by locking all functions. The lock button will illuminate when Control Lock is activated. Deactivate the Control Lock function by pressing and holding the lock button for 4 seconds. This should turn the lock light off.

If the control panel is showing an error code, refer to your user manual to determine its meaning and solution. However, if the control panel isnt illuminated at all it may have gotten wet or malfunctioned. A defective control panel requires professional replacement.

    Faulty Main Control Board

If your dishwasher is no longer responding to the touchpad, there are a few causal parts that need to be tested before you replace the main control board.

Check to see if the touchpad is receiving voltage from the main control board and if it isnt, then check all of the wiring connecting up to the touchpad ensure nothing is cracked or burnt out.

If some of these things check out, then youll want to check with a voltmeter to make sure that each button has continuity with the ground when pressed and that none of them have an electrostatic buildup preventing them from making contact.

What To Do If Your Dishwasher Wont Start

Before you start troubleshooting your dishwasher and whenever you check for continuity within your dishwasher, always make sure you unplug the dishwasher and that the power to the appliance is turned off to prevent electrical shock.

  • Make sure your dishwasher is plugged inOccasionally, your dishwasher wont start because its not plugged in or theres an issue within the circuit breaker. Make sure your dishwasher is securely plugged in and that the circuit breaker switches havent been tripped.
  • Make sure the child lock isnt onSome dishwasher models will have a child lock feature to prevent the dishwasher from starting. Check your owners manual and make sure the child lock settings are turned off.
  • Reset the dishwasherIf your dishwasher wont start but the lights are on, the start button may have been pressed more than once. While pressing the start button once starts the cycle, pressing it again resets the dishwasher and runs a drain cycle for 90 seconds. Wait until the drain cycle is complete and try starting your dishwasher.
  • Check the motor start relayIf your dishwasher wont turn on and youve verified that its receiving power, the motor start relay may be defective. Locate the part next to the motor and use a multimeter to check for continuity. The coil portion of the relay should show continuity at all times while the switch contact portion should only show continuity when activated.

Why Is My Whirlpool Washing Machine Not Turning On

If your washing machine doesnt turn on, you may have tripped a circuit breaker or unplugged the machine. First, check your outlet for any signs of damage that would indicate there is a more serious problem with the power at your home.

If you suspect a problem with your homes electrical wiring, call a licensed and insured electrician to inspect your breaker box and wiring.

Whirlpool Microwave Start Button Not Working

Kitchenaid, Whirlpool Dishwasher – Control Panel – Start button not working – Diagnostic & Repair

All electronics are bound to have their start buttons not working. Your whirlpool microwave is not an exception.

Unless your appliance has broken down beyond repair, solving this problem should be easy for you. It could be a troubleshooting issue that does not require a technician, but just a simple reset, and you are good to go.

But as usual with all my guides, I begin with the possible causes so that you can treat the problem without guesswork.

Causes for whirlpool microwave start button not working

  • Faulty Keypad
  • A faulty keypad will not allow the start button to work. The pad freezes all the operations, and however hard you press, it will not work.

    Resolution

If you are not a tech person, get an experienced person to open your microwave and access the keypad interiors. They will point out the problem and recommend the perfect solution. But it will either be a repair or a replacement, so be prepared for a cost implication.

    2. No Power

Start button, clear/off button, defrost, and all the buttons on your whirlpool microwave will not function if your appliance has a power cut. It could be at your homes central control board or a broken plug head. It will be a vain attempt to power up your microwave without power.

    Resolution

If its a power outage, be patient and wait for your provider to supply you back. You can contact the customer service desk for a report so that they can act promptly or wait until they connect you back.

    3. Damaged Control Board

There Is A Lot Of Dirt Built Up

One of the most common reasons why dishwasher buttons get stuck is related to the buildup of dirt, grease, and oil. Particularly if you have a dishwasher with a top control panel, it is not unusual for these buttons to get stuck. Food, oil, and debris can cause one or more of your dishwasher buttons to malfunction.

If you feel like the button is stuck in place, you may want to use an ammonia based cleaner to free the stuck button. Remember to use appropriate protection if you are using this type of cleaner. You do not want to get burned, and you need to protect your respiratory system.

Problem With The Main Control Board

The main control board manages all the function of the Whirlpool dishwasher. If the board has a problem, it will fail to transmit electricity to the dishwasher touchpad, preventing the touchpad buttons from working.

Disconnect the Whirlpool dishwasher from the power source to perform a reset, and then check to see if the reset fixed the problem.

If resetting the unit doesnt fix the main control board, consider a replacement. The Core Centric Electronic Control Board might be a good replacement part because its compatible with Whirlpool dishwashers.

    The Main Control Board

The purpose of the main control board on your dishwasher is to provide power to just about all of the components within the entire dishwasher. When the control board goes bad or stops functioning properly, those components cant get the power that they need, and they stop working properly.

One of the major issues when the control board goes bad is that it might not be able to send the proper voltage to the components that will start the dishwasher. More often than not, the main control board tends to get misdiagnosed. If you think that there may be issues with your dishwasher, check with one of the more commonly defective parts before moving to replace the control board.

    Dishwasher Door Latch Malfunction

Your dishwasher wont start if the dishwasher door isnt securely closed and latched. Always close the door firmly, without slamming, to ensure that the latch is engaged. A Whirlpool dishwasher not starting even with a properly closed door may have a latch malfunction. If the latch is damaged or shows a lack of continuity with multimeter testing, it must be replaced.

    How To Reset The Dishwasher:

Much like a computer, resetting the dishwasher control can sometimes solve the issues you are experiencing. To reset the dishwasher control panel, it needs to be disconnected from the power source for one minute. If your dishwasher is plugged into an outlet, simply unplug the unit for one minute and then plug the unit back in. If the dishwasher is hard wired to the power supply, turn the breaker off at the home electrical panel that powers the dishwasher for one minute and then turn the breaker back on.

How To Clean/remove The Spray Arm

You can completely remove the spray arm to have a look at it very easily. First turn off your dishwasher, and turn it off at the fuse box. Then pull out the bottom drawer of your dishwasher and set it aside so its out of the way.

After that unscrew the spray arm by holding it firmly and rotating it counter clockwise. Then gently pull it up and it will come off. You shouldnt need to force it, if it is unscrewed correctly.

Once youve removed the spray arm try to scoop out any blockages rather than poking it into the spray arm. Otherwise, it can get stuck again as it gets forced out of the hole when the water sprays out of the hole again. Once youve cleared it, clip and screw the spray arm back in, and try to run your dishwasher again.

If its not that, then it could be any one of the components listed above, and theres no way to know for sure if you dont get an error message when you run it in diagnostic mode. If thats the case its best to get a technician to have a look at it.

Why Is My Dishwasher Not Starting

Maytag, Whirlpool & KitchenAid Dishwasher – Control Panel – Touch pad buttons not working

If your dishwasher does not start, there may be a problem with the door latch or the door latch switches. The latch assembly is used to keep its door closed so that there is no water leakage during the cycle. It also contains latch door switches that supply the dishwasher with power.

If the dishwasher does not stop filling water, the float switch may be faulty, the timer is stuck filling up, or its water inlet valve is left open. If the door does not close properly, the Dishwasher is not starting. Check your timer or electronic control if the dishwashers latch is fine. Do this especially when the pump motor is not starting.
