Worn Out Dispenser Gasket
The gasket is the rubber ring round the inside of the soap dispenser door. It ensures that the soap stays sealed water-tight inside the dispenser until it is needed for the wash cycle. This gasket is essential for prepping a washer to run than running it later. This gasket is essential to the washer carefully controlling when it dispenses soap in the washing cycle. It may also be essential to getting your dishwasher dispenser door closed and being able to start the unit.
Gaskets often need replacing, so be prepared to do that for your dishwasher soap dispenser door. If the gasket is still in good condition but is old and dry, all you have to do is apply a little vaseline to the gasket. This will soften it and reinitiate the sea. A little vaseline on the gasket can be essential for closing the dispenser door which can allow you to close the dishwasher door and get your machine up and running again.

The 7 Most Common Problems With Your Dishwasher Soap Dispenser
Dishwashers are modern marvels of plumbing and electronics, and of high-quality residential engineering. Without dishwashers, we would all have soap-dry hands and be up to our elbows in dishwater every night after dinner. Without dishwashers, we would still spend half an hour standing at the sink every night, minimum. So its pretty alarming when a tiny detail about your dishwasher suddenly renders the entire machine non-functional.
This situation is incredibly common in regards to the dishwasher soap dispenser. That special little compartment that pops open to release the dish detergent when the dishwasher deems the load ready to be washed with soapy water. However, if the dispenser is not properly closed or if it does not open during the dishwasher cycle, youve got a real problem. Possibly even one that keeps the dishwasher from running entirely.
Today, were here to explore the top seven most common reasons why that little dishwasher soap dispenser is not working the way it should.

How To Replace A Dishwasher Detergent Dispenser
This DIY repair guide gives step-by-step instructions for replacing the dishwasher detergent dispenser. The dispenser in the dishwasher door houses the main wash detergent cup and the rinse aid compartment. A hinged cap covers the detergent cup until the electronic control boardor the timer, in some modelssignals the cap’s latch to pop open. During the last rinse, the rinse aid compartment releases a small amount of rinse aid. If you find any dispenser parts damaged or the dispenser doesn’t open when activated during the cycle, replace it with a manufacturer-approved dishwasher part.
Use these instructions to replace the detergent dispenser in Kenmore, Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Maytag, JennAir and Amana dishwashers. You also can use the same basic steps to replace the dispenser in some LG, Samsung, Frigidaire, Electrolux and GE dishwashers.

How To Replace A Spring On A Kenmore Dishwasher Soap Dispenser

Your Kenmore dishwasher comes equipped with an automatic dish-washing soap dispenser built into the door of the appliance. The dishwasher automatically opens the door of the soap dispenser, eliminating the need to manually add detergent during the wash cycle. If detergent remains in the soap dispenser at the end of the wash cycle or the soap dispenser door remains shut, the spring on the dispenser door may be damaged and needs replacing.
1.
Open the Kenmore dishwasher door to access the soap dispenser.
2.
Lift the door on the soap dispenser so it sits perpendicular to the dishwasher door. Note the orientation of the original spring on the soap dispenser.
3.
Slide the tip of a slotted screwdriver between the soap dispenser door and the hinge pin. Use the screwdriver to pry the dispenser door off the pin.
4.
Grab one end of the hinge pin. Slide the pin from the old spring and brackets attached to the dishwasher door. This releases the spring. Discard the old spring.
5.
Reinsert the pin through one of the brackets. Slide a new spring onto the pin. Insert the end of the pin into the bracket on the opposite side of the dispenser. The new spring will install on the hinge pin between the two brackets. Ensure you install the new spring to match the orientation of the original spring.
9.
Shut the soap dispenser door. Push on the tab holding the dispenser door shut to make sure the door springs open.
