Do Kitchenaid Dishwashers Dry Well
Another area where KitchenAid excels is drying performance. While it doesnt beat Bosch dishwashers, it towers over many other popular brands thanks to its extra fan-enabled ProDry system.
The ProDry system uses a recessed heating element to draw moisture off plastic dishes. This means faster drying and better sanitation. Use the extended ProDry, and you can run the heating element for longer. However, you might prefer to use the condenser drying option for ceramic and metal dishware.

Cons
-
Lackluster cleaning on the Tough cycle
But as the most expensive non-luxury dishwasher weve ever had in our lab, we were really hoping to find a scaled-back version that cleans away food stains without cleaning out our wallets.
Thankfully, thats exactly what the KitchenAid KDTM404ESS is. It shares many of the same features we love about the 704, including the motorized Dynamic Wash Arm and the Clean Water Wash filtration system. For improved drying, it has a recessed heating element and fan.
It also keeps the same design language that got our attention in the first place, which includes a thick, knurled handlebar. Its wash cycles even behaved similarly, both in terms of cycle duration, resource usage, and cleaning power. The bottle washing jets and the interior lights are the only things missingbut for $500 less, most consumers will probably consider that a worthwhile tradeoff.

Ges Twin Turbo Boost Drying
This advanced dishwasher dry cycle uses a heating element to finish a load with a hot rinse, adding steam to the wash process. Then, two fans pull the hot air and moisture out, removing water and condensation before recirculating the warm air back into the dishwasher.
By using this drying method available on select GE dishwashers, even hard-to-dry dishes like Tupperware, meal prep containers, and baby bottles come out with better results than simply air-drying.
The Third Rack Isnt For Everyone
The FreeFlex third rack on the KDTM404KPS is a departure from the traditional design that only allows for utensils. While it is one of the deepest third racks weve ever tested, space is still very limited. You may find yourself putting glasses and small bowls up there all the time, or, if youre used to the older style third rack, decide that theres not enough space for your utensils and not bother.

Kitchenaid Dishwasher Models To Avoid
Ironically, the two models to avoid are KitchenAid’s most expensive.
The 700 series is $1,499, and the 800 series is $1,899, but you are only adding a knife caddy, light, and glide-out racks. It’s $200-600 more than the 600 series, will all the other best features.
Another KitchenAid dishwasher you should probably not consider is their 304 panel-ready model.

Dishwashers: Kitchenaid 404 Vs 604
Although shopping for a dishwasher may seem like a pretty standard process, it can come with many decisions to be made with so many options to choose from. Just like shopping for a car, youll soon find most dishwasher manufacturers offer a variety of appliances at different trim levels or different features. Do you go with the quieter dishwasher or the one with the most wash cycles? How about flexible storage – is that important? Many dishwashers can look similar in appearance but be priced differently. Just like the KitchenAid 404s models compared to the KitchenAid 604 models. They both look the same from the outside and appear to have most of the same features. So what is so different? First, lets review about whats so similar.
What’s The Same
What’s The Difference
One difference between these two KitchenAid models is detectable from the front. On the 404, youll notice theres a small slit on the top left above the handle which does not exist on the 604. That is because these dishwashers use a different system for drying the dishes. The 404 uses heated water and hot air to dry dishes while the 604 uses a fan-enabled ProDry System which combines a heating element and a fan. Another difference is the delay times. The 404 offers 2- 4-8 hour delays while the 604 offers 1-24 hour delays. Lastly, the 404 only has 2 stemware holders in the middle rack while the 604 has 4 stemware holders.

Kitchenaid Dishwashers Buying Considerations
When it comes to shopping for a new dishwasher, KitchenAid products are more reliable than the average brand in terms of price, longevity, and energy savings. Several factors may influence the price of a dishwasher, including the finish material, smart features, and configurations. If youre considering a premium KitchenAid dishwasher, they will range somewhere between $1,079 and $1,709, but you can still find a more cost-effective quality product for $859 to $899.
If youre financially and environmentally conscious, then consider a KitchenAid dishwasher with the Energy Star certification. Not only will they use less water with each cycle, but they will also make the dry cycles more efficient, saving you money year over year. One of the most sought-after features is also the PrintShield Finish, which makes the exterior stainless-steel fingerprint-proof and smudge-resistant. You can even find this dishwasher finish on KitchenAids line of black stainless-steel dishwashers if youre hoping to add a dramatic touch to your kitchen.
And if youre curious about how the different design options might play into your current kitchen layout, KitchenAid allows you to choose from the following types:
- Classic front controls
- Hidden top controls with a towel bar handle
- Hidden top controls with a pocket handle
- Panel ready dishwasher
Stainless Steel Tub Vs Plastic Tub
When it comes to dishwasher tubs, shoppers can choose between a plastic tub or a stainless steel tub. Its easy to think of stainless steel in terms of looks, but theres more to the design than aesthetics.
For one, stainless steel dishwasher tubs provide superior sanitization than plastic dishwasher tubs. Thats because plastic tubs can be porous, while metal naturally repels bacteria growth, odors, and food stains. Additionally, metal tubs are able to withstand higher temperatures, which means they can provide a deeper clean.
Another benefit of stainless steel dishwasher tubs is that theyre conductive to heat. This property allows the tub and walls to cool faster than the steam inside the dishwasher, and in doing so, the steam naturally clings to the colder surfaces. Once contact is made, the steam cools, condensates, and falls down and away from dishes.
