Ge: Our Second Runner

Fixing a broken Dishwasher – Maytag 300 Quietseries

We nearly recommended GE dishwashers as our runner-up instead of the Maytag 7959. Machines from the two brands are similar in a lot of ways, with heated drying, a food grinder, great cleaning performance , decent racks, and quiet-enough performance. We tested a couple of GE models, and the GE GDP665SYNFS was our favorite. It has a third rack, plus bottle-washing nozzles built into the tines on the middle rack, a feature that we think is pretty cool even as we recognize how gimmicky it is.

In making our picks, we ended up passing over GE because its aggregate reliability data is less favorable, and its prices tend to be higher than Whirlpool and Maytags on a per-feature basis. But if theres something you like about a GE or GE Profile dishwashermaybe youre getting a great GE stove in one of the finishes that only GE sells, and you want your dishwasher to matchit can be a fine choice.

Wed steer clear of the really low-end GE models because they have lousy owner ratings.

What Would Cause A Maytag Dishwasher Not To Drain

If your Maytag dishwasher isnt draining properly, a few things could be causing the issue. The first thing you should check is the drain hose. If the hose is kinked or clogged, it could be preventing water from flowing out of the dishwasher. You should also make sure that the dishwashers drain filter is clean.

A build-up of food and grease can cause the filter to become clogged, which will prevent water from draining properly. Finally, if your dishwasher is still not draining properly, the pump or motor may be faulty.

If this is the case, youll need to contact a qualified technician for repairs. By troubleshooting these common issues, you should be able to fix your Maytag dishwasher and get it draining properly again.

How Do I Reset My Maytag Quiet Series 300 Dishwasher

If your Maytag Quiet Series 300 dishwasher isnt working properly, you may need to reset it. To do this, first, make sure that the dishwasher is turned off and unplugged. Next, locate the reset button on the control panel. It is usually a small red or black button.

Once you have located the reset button, press and hold it for three to five seconds. After a few moments, you should hear a click as the dishwasher resets itself. If the reset button doesnt work, you may need to consult your owners manual for further instructions.

Do I Have To Wash The Dishes Before

There is a common misconception that you must wash dishes before you but them in the dishwasher to get a thoroughly cleaned set. This isnt true with the Maytag Quiet Series 300. However, scrape dishes with food scraps or heavily soiled dishes before placing them in the dishwasher for best results. This allows the sprayer arms to work on cleaning the dish as opposed to removing large pieces of debris left on it. It also prevents your dishwasher drain from being clogged with that debris.

If your Maytag dishwasher wont start after trying these tips, its possible a defective part is responsible.

These part malfunctions can result in starting problems and require replacement via a dishwasher repair service:

    • Faulty control board: This computerized component powers most dishwasher functions. If its faulty, there wont be any voltage to transmit commands or signals.
    • Defective timer: The timer governs each dishwasher cycle by regulating how long each receives power. While rare, a defective timer wont provide the necessary power for each function.

    Blomberg And Beko: Next Time

How to fix your dishwasher (Maytag Quietseries 300)

Beko, a mainstream European appliance brand, has been a fringe brand in the US under the Blomberg banner for about a decade. As weve understood the situation, the dishwashers work well, but theyve been easy to buy only in certain regions of the US, so weve never recommended them. But the company looks to be expanding its presence, and well try to get one of its machines the next time we test dishwashers.

    Quiet But Poorly Designed

This dishwasher was already installed in a house we recently bought. I am not sure how old it is but it looks hardly used so I am sure they had it installed fairly recently. I do not know about longterm reliabilty but after 1 1/2 weeks with it we are ready to replace it. The dishwasher is fairly quiet, which is great. But it is very poorly designed. The racks have so many stupid configurations and options it ends up making it all very flimsy and very hard to load well. Our frigidaire we had at our previous house held boatloads of dishes and you could stack them any which way and they would get clean. You just can’t fit much in this one and they rarely all come out clean. It looks great at first glance being able to move all those racks into different positions but you will quickly realize you gave up functionality for some cheap gimmicky racks.

    Every Dishwasher Is Efficient

Maytag Quiet Series 300 for sale

Dishwashers are all very efficient. More than 90% of all current dishwashers are Energy Star certified, which means that based on a standardized test, they use significantly less water and energy than the minimum standards allowed by the Department of Energy .

In the real world, its common for dishwashers to use more water and energy than indicated in those government estimates. Most dishwashers have soil sensors, which adjust the cycles length and water use while its running. If the sensor detects a lot of gunk floating around, the dishwasher adds extra water and extends the wash time.

The standardized test isnt perfectly representative of real-world conditions either. The standard load of dishes is moderately soiled, but any days worth of dishes and cookware could easily be dirtier. Sood, the former Bosch product manager, said that the most obvious thing thats unrealistic is that the test load does not include any plastic dishes. That was a little silly back in 2003 when the test was adopted, and it seems like a huge oversight today now that plasticware is ubiquitous. The way things stick to plastic is different, Sood said, so soils might not rinse off as easily, which in turn might affect the soil sensors behavior.

You could also opt for a super-duper efficient dishwasher, if resource conservation is your goal. Models that use even less water and energy than Energy Star requires get a special shout-out on the Energy Star site as the Most Efficient models.

How To Troubleshoot A Maytag Dishwasher Not Filling With Water

Before you call to have your Maytag dishwasher serviced because it does not fill with water, go through a few troubleshooting steps first to narrow down the problem. In some situations, you may be able to find the problem and fix it without a costly repair. When troubleshooting your dishwasher — or any mechanical device, for that matter — use the line of reasoning attributed to 14th century Franciscan friar and logician William of Ockham. The principle, commonly known as Ockham’s razor, suggests that the simplest answer is often the correct one.

How To Use Your Dishwasherthe Modern Way

Heres how to make the most of your dishwasher in 2021.

Dont bother pre-rinsing: Seriously. Most people still pre-rinse, but modern dishwashers and detergents are designed to clean dishes that are actually dirty. All dishwashers have mesh filters that catch food, so you dont have to worry about your machine getting clogged, or gross stuff redepositing on your plates. Every dishwasher and detergent brand and every independent expert weve talked to says that pre-rinsing is unnecessary, and so does the Environmental Protection Agency. Some of our sources said you might even get better results without a pre-rinse because of the way modern enzymatic detergents work. At the very least, you save a bunch of water and energy, keep a little extra cash in your wallet, and get back hours of time.

Use a detergent with enzymes, plus a rinse aid, and prepare to experiment: Enzymes help break up tough soils that cheap detergents cant. Theyre also better for the environment than phosphate detergents . Powders, tablets, and pods almost always include enzymes, but many gels do not . Rinse aid is a liquid that goes into the hatch next to the main detergent tray. The dishwasher dispenses a few milliliters of this stuff into the final rinse, and it helps dishes, especially plastic ones, dry more thoroughly and reduces or prevents chalky water spots or hazy films.

Maytag dishwasher quiet series 300 no power (repaired).

If liquid dish soap and warm water doesnt effectively clean your Maytag Quiet Series 300 drain, you can use a homemade vinegar solution. To make the solution, mix 1/2 cup of white vinegar with 1/2 cup of water.

Pour the solution into the drain and let it sit for 15 minutes before running hot water down the drain to rinse it away. If you have a stubborn clog, you can also try using a plunger to loosen it before flushing the drain with the vinegar solution.

Where Is The Filter On Maytag Quiet Series 300

The filter on the Maytag Quiet Series 300 is located in the back of the unit, near the bottom. To access it, you will need to remove the lower panel. The filter is a small, round, white piece located inside a housing. To clean it, simply remove it and rinse it with water. You should replace the filter every six months to ensure that your unit operates at peak efficiency.

The filter on the Maytag Quiet Series 300 is located in the back, right-hand corner of the dishwasher. Simply open the dishwasher door and pull out the lower dish rack to access it. The filter will be visible in the corner behind the dish rack.

For best results, it is recommended that you clean the filter every month or two. Simply remove the filter and rinse it under warm water to do this. If the filter is excessively dirty, you may need to replace it. Replacement filters can be purchased from Maytag or most major appliance stores.

The Dirty Truth About Filters And Food Grinders

All dishwashers have filters that trap loose food particles inside the tub. Some dishwashers also have a grinder behind the filter that can annihilate any chunks of food large enough to clog the drain in the extremely unlikely case that they slip through the filter. Either system works well, and we recommend both types. But a grinder is kind of a gimmick, and most people will be perfectly happy with a simpler, quieter, filter-only dishwasher.

One common concern weve heard is that filter-only models dont clean as well as dishwashers with grinders and need much more unpleasant hands-on maintenance.

Theres a kernel of truth here: You do need to remove and rinse most filters under running water from time to time to maintain the dishwashers performance . Starchy, greasy gunk builds up and eventually clogs the filter. If you put a lot of starchy soils into your machine and use non-enzymatic detergent and have hard water, you might have to rinse the filter as often as every few weeks.

But realistically, most people should be able to get away with rinsing their filters as little as twice a year, because filters tend to stay clean enough on their own. Enzymatic detergents weaken the structure of the toughest types of soils . All of those pre-softened foods that are caught in the filter eventually get shredded in its fine mesh as the wash water circulates through the machine. The remnants eventually get flushed down the drain.

    Problem With Dishwasher Water Supply

If there is adequate power, a Maytag dishwasher not starting may have a water supply issue.

Here are water supply issues that can keep a dishwasher from starting:

    • Improper connection: Make sure the dishwashers water supply hose is properly connected to your homes hot water pipe and that the supply valve is on.
    • Water supply hose is bent or pinched: Try to gently straighten or reposition the hose to allow water to flow, making sure that the dishwasher isnt pinching the hose when its pushed back in place. A damaged hose must be replaced.
    • Faulty water inlet valve: If the dishwashers water inlet valve is faulty, it may not open to allow water to enter the dishwasher. A faulty valve requires replacement.

Frigidaire Lg And Samsung: Maybe Okay With Caveats

Maytag Quiet Series 300 for sale

These three brands all make decent dishwashers that should work well for most people most of the time. But in our tests, they didnt work as well as the other machines weve covered so far, and they have some red flags you should watch out for.

Frigidaire specializes in affordable plastic-tub dishwashers. We tested the super-basic Frigidaire FFID2426TS, which did a decent but not great job cleaning the toughest soils , and the upgraded Frigidaire Gallery FGID2468UD, which was one of the better cleaners we tested overall. The Frigidaire line uses a heated-dry system, and both models we tested were great at drying dishes. They also have some of the shortest cycle times we found: The 2468 has a 34-minute wash cycle that performed pretty well, and both machines normal cycles tended to take less than two hours, which is unusual. But weak owner ratings at retailer sites, Consumer Reports reliability data, and J.D. Powers performance and reliability satisfaction ratings all paint the same picture: Frigidaire dishwashers tend to cause more trouble for their owners than other brands.
