Similarities Between Yeti And Hydro Flask
Both models use top-of-the-line materials and technology. But, both are a bit on the pricier side as well. However, considering that both models are leaders in the insulated water bottle market, they have the potential to last for many years, and because of that, I think the prices are fair.
I even have one Hydro Flask with a big dent in the side. It fell 8 feet from my backpack onto rocks while scrambling. I still use it more than a year later. See the image below, and yes, it was a rainy day up the mountains.
Each model is virtually indestructible. No matter what you go for, rust or punctures wont be a problem. You may dent or scratch them a bit, but both will survive almost anything you put them through, as you can see from the Hydro Flask above.
Aside from lending strength and durability to the water bottle, stainless steel is highly resistant to bacteria and odors. And it does not affect the taste of your drinks.
Each model features double-wall vacuum insulation. This technology prevents the exterior temperature from affecting the temperature of the liquid inside. If you pour cold water inside, it will stay cold for an extended period. If you pour hot coffee inside, it will stay hot for up to 6 hours on average.

Secret Weapon: Denture Cleaner
Unless you keep your teeth in a glass at night, you likely dont keep denture cleaner around the house. But these effervescent tablets can help take stains off of your Hydro Flask or other insulated steel bottle with no elbow grease. All you need is a little bit of time: Fill your bottle with lukewarm water, drop a tablet in, and let it go to work. Another option: Buy a purpose-made bottle-cleaning tablet like Bottle Bright.

What Happens If You Put Your Hydro Flask In A Dishwasher
If you put your Hydro Flask in the dishwasher it’s a gamble as to what could happen.
Truthfully your bottle may be completely fine and may go through the cycle and just come out clean. Depending on your dishwasher it may not have any bad effect on your bottle.
But there is a chance that putting your Hydro Flask in the dishwasher can cause the vacuum seal to break. If this happens the space between the inner and outer wall will fill up with air.
Once this happens your bottle will no longer work as well at keeping drinks cold or hot because it will have lost it’s main ability to insulate.
There is also a chance that the dishwasher may discolor your Hydro Flask, though I haven’t seen any examples of this.

Maintenance Manual Cleaning And The Dishwasher
This is a time of change for the Hydro Flask, as they transition to a dishwasher-safe design. So it makes sense to give special attention to how to wash Hydro Flask. Doing it manually might still be a better choice and could help with the longevity of your flask.
And, are HydroFlasks dishwasher safe? The newer ones are, but it still makes sense to be careful about how you clean the Hydro Flask. As for lids and caps, Hydro Flip Lid and Wide Straw Lid are top-rack dishwasher safe. But it may reduce their longevity.
Soak With Soapy Water

The next step is to soak the bottle in warm soapy water. You can do this by filling up the sink or filling up the bottle.
Im a bit of a conservationist when it comes to washing dishes, and prefer to add hot water to the water bottle with a small amount of dishwashing liquid.
After its been soaking, give the bottle a scrubbing with a bottle brush. Make sure to get the outer wall on the inside of your bottle with the brush, as well as the bottom of the bottle.
Bottle Brushes are usually found in most stores, if you have trouble finding them, then you can go on Amazon and wait a day before doing it. At least thats what happened to me.
Finally make sure to wash your Hydro Flask cap and edge, making sure to scrub any place the mouth touches are important.
My favorite bottle brushes and cleaners.

Are Hydroflasks Dishwasher Safe
Not so long ago, the answer to this question was âno, Hydro Flasks are not dishwasher safe.â Things have changed this year, and now the answer is âyes, Hydro Flasks are dishwasher safe, but⦠um, there are things you should know.â
Even as Hydro Flask has updated the product descriptions for most of its products to signify that they are indeed dishwasher safe, its care instructions still suggest against dishwashers. Well, thatâs understandable, considering there are tons of pages to manage and sometimes things slip through. I wouldnât be surprised if it was updated soon.
Initially, Hydro Flask suggested against using dishwashers because:
- The dishwasher can get hot enough to affect the outer layer of the flask and thus negatively impact the insulation.
- Dishwashers can damage the powder coating on the exterior of the flasks.
It seems both these problems have now been handled. New Hydro Flasks no longer risk damage to insulation due to heat from the dishwasher. Additionally, the powder coat on the exterior can now handle dishwashers without getting damaged.
There are murmurs that putting the Hydro Flask through dishwashers leads to the color getting faded. Since the bottle is relatively new, there isnât enough evidence to have a clear answer on this one way or the other.
Can The Dishwasher Wear Down Your Hydroflask Overtime
If you are putting a Hydroflask that is dishwasher safe in the dishwasher, it shouldnt wear it down too much. It is possible for it to wear down a little bit faster than it would if you were to hand wash it every time. However, you wont be doing any damage.
The problem is when you put an old Hydroflask in the dishwasher. At minimum, you might get lucky and nothing bad will happen. At the most, the vacuum seal may get broken and your Hydroflask wont keep liquids hot or cold anymore.
Hydroflasks have two walls: An inner wall, and an outer wall. There is a vacuum seal in between these walls that works as insulation, keeping drinks hot or cold for a long amount of time. But putting your Hydroflask in the dishwasher will make it get really hot, and this could break the vacuum seal and compromise this effect.
Putting your non dishwasher safe bottle in the dishwasher could also cause some wear and tear. Your bottle might become dull, discolored, or flaky. So its definitely important to listen when your Hydroflask says that its not dishwasher safe.

Recommended Yeti Cups And Tumblers
We can recommend a few great YETI products:
- The YETI Rambler Tumbler has a classic tumbler shape. Its designed to fit all standard cup holders and comes in a variety of colors
- The YETI Rambler Mug is the ideal solution if you need to have your morning coffee on the go
- The YETI Rambler Lowball is the perfect size for a cold drink or a coffee, and it can be thrown into the dishwasher, even the lid!
How To Wash The Lid And Its Parts
There are multiple lid types for various styles of Yeti cups. Well focus on the slide-top lid for this post. There are three parts to the lid: the lid itself, the gasket, and the slider top. The gasket and slider-top should be removed first. This should be done by hand and is very easy.
You can either place these pieces in your dishwashers utensil holder, or you can use a sponge, hot water, and dish soap to finish the job by hand. If cleaning by hand, allow to air dry completely before reassembling your Yetis lid.
Should you have a different lid on your Yeti and would like to know how to safely disassemble, clean, and reassemble it, you can visit Yetis official site.

Using The Dishwasher Top Rack
Although the recommendation from Hydro Flask is to wash every part with your hand, you can wash the flip lid and wide straw lid on the top rack. We often overlook these parts because they are problematic to clean. It is important you note that due to the numerous crevices on them, these parts could act as a reservoir for bacteria and other microbes harmful to health.
Please note that the Hydro Flask website says that you have to wash it with your hand for the cap to last longer. Also, always check the care instructions for your own Hydro Flask to find out if it is safe to run it through a dishwasher or not.
Hydro Flask Changed The Way Their Bottles Looked In 2020 And Made Them Safe For The Dishwasher
Before that, their bottles said hand wash only. If you have an older model of Hydro Flask, its best to hand wash it. The new models are top-rack dishwasher safe, but the old ones can deform in the dishwasher.
- The old Hydro Flask bottles were made of 18/8 food-grade stainless steel. This is the same material thats used in many kitchen appliances, but it cant withstand the high temperatures of a dishwasher cycle. The intense heat can cause the bottle to warp and deform.
- The new Hydro Flask bottles are made of a different type of stainless steel that can withstand the high temperatures of a dishwasher cycle. This means that you can safely put your new Hydro Flask bottle in the dishwasher without worry about it warping.
