What Is A Smart Dishwasher
Smart dishwashers connect via WiFi to an app on your phone, allowing you to control them remotely through that app. You no longer have to pay through the nose for them but Andy Trigg suggests approaching these with an air of caution.
âThink carefully before paying extra for smart features,â says Trigg. âYou should never run a dishwasher when no one is present in the house. They are a potential fire risk. If you can see that there are genuinely useful functions on a smart dishwasher then you will no doubt be happy to pay extra for one.â

Best Bosch Dishwashers For 2022

LIVE EVENT: How to Buy a Pro Range: The Definitive Guide
Buying a Bosch dishwasher can be incredibly confusing. You have many series to choose from, like the 100, 300, 500, 800, 800+, and two Benchmark series.
Logic normally dictates the more expensive dishwashers have the best features, except in Bosch’s case. Their best series do not have their best drying system and you pay nearly $1,000 more.
There are over 52 dishwashers in eight series. Once you pick the series, then the blizzard of model numbers will be astonishing.
You have up to five different styles and model numbers for each dishwasher. I have to admit I needed more than one explanation to understand the differences myself.
In this article, you will learn about the five best Bosch dishwashers to consider, their features, prices, and reliability based on real service calls. In addition, I will show several Bosch dishwashers you should avoid.
Availability is also a big part of this article as some of Bosch’s best-selling models are unavailable. It was tough finding five models for you to buy currently.
Many brands also have supply chain issues. That’s why you will see such a massive jump in price from $599 to $1,149. Bosch’s most popular models from $829-$899 are not available.

Which Bosch Dishwasher Is The Best
That all depends. In writing this, I am beginning to believe your best Bosch is the available one. However, if you are a builder and want the name and not the price, the Bosch Ascenta dishwasher is ideal.
It’s a pretty big step from the lowest series at $599 up to the best 500 series at $1049 dishwasher and the 800 series. Our most popular Bosch up until 2021 was their lower-priced 500 series, but they are currently unavailable.
If you can find an SHS863 or SHX863 in your area at about $829-$899, they are worth buying. I will update this post when the supply chain returns to 2019 levels .
The 800 series is excellent for washing, racking with the MyWay third rack, quietness, and the best drying system. Plus, it’s what Bosch is producing.
I know this post title is the five best models, but you may have to deviate from buying a Bosch nowadays for a more available brand or any brand of dishwasher you can find.
Below we compared Bosch briefly to their main competitors, Miele and KitchenAid.
What Type Of Dishwasher Do I Need
Depending on the design of your kitchen, dishwashers can be installed differently to best fit the space available. There are three main types:
Integrated: integrated dishwashers sit under your kitchen counters and are entirely hidden by a furniture door that matches the rest of your kitchen.
Semi-integrated: the dishwasher is also placed under a countertop but the machineâs panel and door is on show.
Freestanding: these can stand alone wherever you place them and are finished on all sides.

Bosch 800 Series: Refinements And Clever Tech
The 800 Series has more handle styles and finishes available than the 500 Series, and a few other upgraded features. They include:
- Noise: Very quiet performance, rated at 42 decibels
- Drying: Heat-releasing mineral tech gets plastic bone-dry
- Controls: Hidden touch-sensitive panel
- Handles: Pocket or bar handle
- Finishes: Stainless steel, black stainless, or panel-ready front to match cabinetry
- WiFi: One model can connect to a companion app for easier troubleshooting
Theres also the 800 Series Premium, with a few extra noteworthy upgrades, including:
- Racks: An extra-deep third rack, large enough for certain cereal bowls
- Style: Metallic-finish handles on the racks
- Noise: Even quieter at 40 decibels, though the improvement may be hard to hear
800 Series models are also available in a compact 18-inch width. Several ADA-compliant models are available as well, including one 24-inch-width option. Each of these specialty models includes a tray for water-softening salts.
The Best Dishwashers You Can Buy Today
The Bosch 300 Series SHSM63W55N is our pick for the best dishwasher overall. Without setting you back a bundle, it gives you top-notch cleaning performance, a durable and spacious stainless-steel tub, and a third rack for cutlery. Among its cycles thereâs one that washes and dries in just one hour and another that sanitizes. The Bosch 300 is so quiet that it projects a beam of light on the floor to let you know itâs running.
As the controls are out of sight on the top of the door, this model has a sleek upscale look. The only negative we can point out is that because the tines that separate plates are close together, you may have trouble fitting in chunky plates or bowls. Otherwise, the dishwasher’s adjustable racks are great for accommodating a wide range of large and small dishes.
The Whirlpool WDF520PADM has an unbeatable price but will still get your dishes sparkling clean and hey, thatâs why youâre buying a dishwasher. Itâs a nice-looking unit, especially if you opt for the stainless-steel finish, but itâs definitely not fancy. The controls are on the front so itâs not as sleek looking as pricier models and the tub is plastic which means it may not hold up as well as a stainless steel one. Inside thereâs no third rack for cutlery. The utensil holder can be positioned on the door if you need extra space on the lower rack but if may not get flatware as clean in that position.

Bosch Vs Beko Dishwashers
If KitchenAid is Bosch’s number one competitor, then Beko will not be far behind. Beko is a Turkish manufacturer and builds dishwashers for Viking in this country.
Beko has been the best by far throughout the pandemic in terms of availability.
Their $599 dishwasher is comparable to the Bosch Ascenta but is quieter at 48 dB and is all steel, whereas the Bosch is metal and plastic.
However, Beko’s is feature-loaded at $899 with 39 dB and special intense cycles or separate sprays to power out tough stains. It even has Wi-Fi. It is a good alternative to the non-existent Bosch 500 series.
If you are placing a panel on your dishwasher, you may end up with a Beko through lack of choice. It’s also more affordable at $1,129 for a panel-ready dishwasher with 39 dB, Wi-Fi, tons of cycles, and special wash arms for tough dishes.

Bosch 300 Series Dishwasher
Dishwashers can range from a couple hundred bucks to a couple thousand, so finding a sweet spot can be tough. The Bosch 300 Series has earned high marks from reviewers for years, though, thanks to its superior cleaning power, reliability and quiet operation. It has a third rack at the top for smaller items, lots of adjustability and comes in multiple colors and styles you can choose a model with hidden controls along the top, too, if you prefer a cleaner look. Its slightly older than the more recent 500 series , but the 300 saves you a bit of money without much sacrifice.
How Does Bosch Dishwasher Version Number Construction Work
We compared 3 specific Bosch dishwasher models in this guide the SHX863WD5N from the 300 series, the SHP865ZD5N from the 500 series, and the SHX878ZD5N from the 800 series. All the model version numbers have deeper meanings. Lets break down the SHE33T55UC model as an example so that you understand what were talking about:
- S dishwasher product code
- H 24-inch model code
- E external controls
- 3 300 series dishwasher code
- 5 stainless code

Thermador Emerald: Like A Midrange Bosch But Better Looking
The most affordable option in the Thermador lineup is the Emerald series. The feature set is a bit of a mish-mash of perks youd get from around the Bosch lineup. But like the Benchmark series, the style is the point of the upgrade here. Heres what youll get:
- Noise: 48 decibel noise rating, like the Bosch 100 Series
- Racks: Standard third rack and adjustable middle rack, like the Bosch 300 Series
- Controls: Touch sensitive controls, like the Bosch 800 Series
- Handle: Rounded bar
The Model Number Tells All
If you get confused, the best way to learn more about the dishwasher youre buying is by taking a look at the model number.
500 and 300 Series dishwashers feature pushbutton controls, while the 800 Series has touch controls.
Though model numbers may look randomly generated, every SKU tells a story. For example, lets examine the SHE33T55UC. Just from looking at this number, you can tell its a 24-inch model with external controls in the 300 Series, with a stainless finish. How?
- The initial S tells us that the product is a dishwasher.
- If the second letter is an H, its a standard 24-inch model. If its a G, its a 24-inch ADA compliant model. If its a P, the dishwasher is a compact, ADA-compliant 18-inch model.
- The third letter tells us what the handle and display combination is. An E, for instance, means external controls. X means the dishwasher has a bar handle, while a P means the dishwasher has a pocket handle. A V means the dishwasher is panel ready.
- The fourth digit tells us what series the dishwasher is in. 3 = 300 Series. A = Ascenta, 5 = 500 Series, 8 = 800 Series, and P = Benchmark.
- The eighth digit tells what color the machine is. 5 = Stainless, 6 = Black, 2 = White, and 3 = Panel Ready.
Simple enough, right? Armed with this information, you can find the right dishwasher for your needs.

Bosch Vs Miele Dishwashers
Miele has probably the best wash and dry system. It has full wash arms on the top and bottom.
Their clean air drying allows air into the side of the dishwasher. The hot, moist air is attracted to the “cooler” side and then dissipated as water.
Miele will also have the best racks because they are all removable and adjustable. Their new G 7000 series has brand new cycles and an auto dispenser holding 20 loads of detergent.
Bosch will have better features and drying in their 800 series, while Miele has some great dishwashers, especially $1,500 and over.
Availability with Miele is as tough as Bosch, if not worse.

When To Replace A Dishwasher
Most brands will offer a one year warranty with a new dishwasher, however the National Association of Home Builders states that a dishwasher should last about nine years. You can buy an extended warranty, but we wouldnât recommend it as it tends to cost as much, if not more, than any potential repairs. If your dishwasher shows signs of wear and tear, that doesn’t necessarily mean it needs replacing, here’s how to make your dishwasher last longer for tips on this.
If any repairs cost half as much as a new dishwasher, we recommend just replacing it. Likewise, if you start to notice rust or cracks forming, then itâs time to buy a new machine. If you notice any strange noises coming from your dishwasher, then thatâs a sign that thereâs a problem with your pump or motor. Other indicators that your dishwasher needs updating include: a broken door latch, failing to heat the water and water leaking onto the floor during the cycle.
The latest dishwasher models tend to be much more energy efficient. If you opt for one which is Energy Star certified, it will only cost about $35 a year to run, saving on overall water and energy consumption.
