The Status Of Yeti Products Before 2015
Before 2015, the Yeti products were not considered dishwasher-safe. The mugs, ramblers, tumblers, coolers, and other similar accessories are no-air products. The vacuum created between the inner and outer layer of Yeti products makes them heat insulators. Thats why, for keeping your beverages cold, Yeti is always a priority by customers.
But the dishwasher heat could damage the vacuum created between the inner and outer layer of the Yeti drinkware. So, the brand didnt recommend dishwashing their products. Yeti tumblers, ramblers, and mugs can handle boil water, then why dont they bear the dishwasher heat? This is the question that came from every Yeti user.
Some users started putting their Yeti products in dishwashers and claimed that they didnt get damaged. Instead, they were still working pretty well. But the manufacturers were claiming that placing their products in the dishwasher could decrease their warranty.
Yeti In A Dishwasher: The Specific Care Instructions
It should be noted that, while it is okay to put your tumbler in a dishwasher, there are certain things you should take note of. For starters, you shouldnt throw your lid into the dishwasher too.
Are Yeti cups dishwasher safe? Yes.
Can you throw in the lid too? No!
The rubber gasket under the lid of a Yeti tumbler or cup is crucial to keeping the cup- airtight. If it gets damaged, then your drinkwares ability to insulate its contents will be compromised.
The heat in a dishwasher is actually strong enough to damage that rubber gasket, and so the one should never be put in the other.
There is also another factor to consider here. Washing the actual mug of Yeti drinkware is pretty easy. A bit of soap and a cleaning wand will do the trick. However, washing the lid needs a lot more care.
The gasket tends to hide a lot more grime, leading to the risk of mold growth if not cleaned properly. To clean the lid, therefore, you need to physically remove the rubber gasket and then clean it and the lid separately.
Make sure to get into all nooks to get rid of all the grime. This has to be done carefully by hand or else you risk hosting mold colonies on your tumblers lid.
If you need step-by-step instructions for the above, read our expert advice on how to clean a YETI Rambler.
Apart from that, the main mug itself is perfectly dishwasher safe.
Why Are Yeti Lids Cloudy
Clear or translucent plastic lids can sometimes appear cloudy. This is mainly caused by excessive exposure to direct sunlight. The suns UV rays can do a lot of damage to our skin and there is no need to cause any damage to the plastic.
Although the Yeti brand is very durable, But most plastics should not be left out in the sun. Yeti is known to replace these covers as long as you comply with the terms of the limited warranty.

How Was It Before
Before 2015, Yeti didnt recommend putting their drinkware inside a dishwasher. The rationale was pretty simple.
The way a Yeti Rambler is designed, there is a space between the inner metal container and the outer metal container.
This space is vacuum-sealed, which means that it has almost no air. It is this near-perfect vacuum that is responsible for preventing heat from seeping into or escaping the contents of the tumbler.
Any damage to this mechanism results in the tumbler becoming useless. It was believed that the intense heat inside a dishwasher might be enough to damage the vacuum seal. This is the main reason why Yeti strongly recommended against putting their tumblers in dishwashers.
However, for the longest time, Yeti users would still throw their tumblers in a dishwasher. They noticed that the dishwasher really didnt have any detrimental effect on the vacuum seal in the tumbler. Again, the rationale was pretty simple here too.
Yeti tumblers are a rugged 18/8 stainless steel pretty hardcore construction. That everyone knows. They can take literal boiling water without experiencing any damage.
If they can handle boiling water, why would the relatively milder heat inside a dishwasher be dangerous for them? This is why Yeti users used to do it.

Currently, no products offered by Yeti carry a lifetime warranty. Yeti does stand by their products, however, and offers three- or five-year limited warranties on their multiple offerings. The rambler cup in particular carries a five-year limited warranty.
What does a limited warranty mean exactly? These types of warranties are conditional, and will only be honored if all of the stated conditions are met. Manufacturers do this so that consumers don’t abuse the product and then request a refund or a replacement. Yeti has set forth the following conditions for their warranty:
- The Yeti must have been purchased from an authorized Yeti dealer or retailer

- The product must be returned to Yeti
- You must have only used the Yeti product in the way it was intended to be used and maintained it according to the manufacturer’s instructions

Rinse With Running Water
The first step is to make sure that the cup doesnt have any content in it. This is especially if the last beverage you used it with was coffee, juice, soda, or tea. Getting rid of drink stains from stainless steel can be pretty challenging.
Its best to use hot water to rinse it because it can dissolve residue that might be stuck in the cup better than cold water.
If there are hardened residue that hot water cant remove, fill the cup with hot water and leave it for 15-30 minutes. This process will soften the residue, making it easier for you to clean.

Be careful in this process ad you dont want to break the rubber off.

Also, if you put your yeti cup in a dishwasher and run the dishwasher, the company will ask for you to wash it again to bring it up to their standard. This means that theres a small chance of the cup breaking.

The Yeti brand positions itself as a rugged alternative to mass-market products that aren’t truly built to handle the rough and tumble nature of the great outdoors. Yeti has a claim on its site asserting that, Yeti represents the yardstick by which all other outdoor products are measured.
And yet. Thousands of people query Google every month wondering the same thing: are Yetis dishwasher safe? So much so that Yeti actually has a page to address that issue.
It would stand to reason that cups meant to survive the wilds of this planet would also be able to survive a dishwasher, right?
So, we ran four different Yeti cups through the dishwasher a bunch of times to see what would happen. We tested our second favorite water bottle the 26 oz. bottle with chug cap, the 12 oz. kid’s bottle with straw cap, the 10 oz. wine tumbler, and the 20 oz. tumbler with MagSlider lid.
Here’s what we found.

What Temperature Liquid Can I Put In The Yeti
It is recommended that you should not put liquid that is hotter than 185F inside the Yeti tumblers, bottles, and mugs.
This is because liquids pose a risk of burning you when you open the bottle. Their ramblers and bottles ensure that the liquid, along with the temperature, is locked inside.
When you open it, the liquid will be the same temperature as it was when you put it in. This is great, but you need to be careful with hot liquids for this reason.
Additionally, hot liquids should remain below the solid ring that connects the threads in their ramblers.
